2026 Constitutional Amendments

VOTE AGAINST NC AMENDMENTS in 2026.

North Carolina’s school funding choices are just plain scary.

This year, our state legislature is spending a record $705 million in taxpayer dollars on private school vouchers, while continuing to shortchange our public schools. The Education Law Center gave NC an F for school funding and an F for effort in its latest report. We already invest the smallest share of our wealth in public schools of any state.

Two tax amendments are lurking on November’s ballot. Public schools need reliable funding. These amendments would make it harder for state and local leaders to respond when schools and communities need more support.

Vote Against Income Tax Cap Amendment

This would lower the maximum rate allowed by the NC Constitution from 7% to 3.5%. It won’t lower your tax bill. The rate is already set to fall to 3.49% in 2027. It would limit future lawmakers’ options for funding schools and other essential services. It protects low tax rates for the wealthiest among us while potentially leaving our whole community with fewer resources. Now that’s spooky.

Vote Against Property Tax Levy Limit Amendment

This would require the legislature to limit increases in local property tax revenue. The ballot leaves the limit a mystery. Local funding helps support schools and other community services. In other states that passed similar caps, community pools closed, library hours shrank, and deep cuts were made to emergency services. That’s a frightening choice to lock into our constitution.

Support our community. Vote AGAINST both amendments. Join folks from across North Carolina and Take the pledge to vote against the amendments here.
